WIP Wednesday #67 - Swept Away

Happy Wednesday everyone.

I know I'm posting really late but I often live by the adage "better late than never" and it seems today is no exception.

What a week it has been!

It has been a truly incredible family holiday. We have only had one day of rain in almost two weeks (this is almost unheard of in Nova Scotia).

It has been a week filled with:

Some gorgeous sights...
Peggy's Cove

And a few unexpected ones.

A 4 year old driving a boat, oh my!
The Tall Ships were in Halifax but we just happened across this one
when we were out for a boat ride in the fog
My crazy husband - that water is freezing!
An pub that really knows how to serve a (fake) beer

Not to mention a very special 2nd birthday!

I can believe how grown up she looks here!

Of course, all of these photos are really to distract you from the fact that all the knitting I've been doing is of the secret kind. The best I can show you is this sneaky shot.

We head home tomorrow and no one is looking forward to leaving. Hopefully, we'll settle back into our regular routine quickly and I'll have an FO for you next week!

Cheers, Nikki

WIP Wednesday #67 - A Big Project

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Lately, I've been feeling very disorganized. Like I'm just a little behind at everything: my knitting, blogging, at home, and pretty much at life in general.

I know it's because I've been working on a really BIG project. It has pretty much taken over everything. And, it is going to be a LONG while before things feel under control again.

That's ok though, because this project is worth it.

It's baby #3!

I always have a difficult first trimester. I have been so very nauseous and exhausted for two months now. The good news is that today I am 13 weeks pregnant and I know I am going to start to feel better anytime now... maybe even today... or tomorrow. Definitely soon!

As hard as the last couple months have been, I know things are not actually going to get easier when this little babe makes its appearance and joins this crazy family.

So in the meantime, I am going to focus  on relaxing during this vacation and spend as much peaceful time as possible, in my favourite place, doing my favourite activity.

I hope your day includes some precious moments for yourself!

Cheers, Nikki

FO Friday #51 - Dear Doodles... again

Happy Friday everyone!

I loved the hat I made for my Doodlebug last year, but it is getting a bit small and she doesn't need the chin ties anymore. I wanted to make her a new summer hat. I went through a bunch of patterns on Ravely, but in the end I could find one I like as much as last year's. So... I made it again, only bigger : )

Pattern:
I really enjoy this pattern (as evidenced by the fact that this is my 3rd time making it). It's quick but varied enough to be interesting. I am endlessly pleased by the neat brim created by folding at the picot edge and picking up the cast-on stitches and knitting them together with the live stitches. And it's free!

Size: 12-24 months
I know this hat tends to run big, so I went with the 12-24 month size for my almost 24 month old. It was a bit big when I finished. My blocking consisted of throwing it in the washer and dryer. I think it came out about perfect.

Yarn:
100% organic cotton
The sport weight of the yarn makes the cotton quite nice to knit. Comes in great colours too.

Needles:
3.5mm knit picks 16 in nickel circular
3.5mm bamboo Chiagoo DPNs

Modifications:
none!

Can you believe my sweet girl is going to be two next week?!! We are off on our summer holidays in a few hours. I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Cheers, Nikki

WIP Wednesday #68 - Summer Snapshots

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Boy, this summer continues at a break neck pace. In the last week, I have:

Done the family thing at a parade and Stampede

Taken the kids to the splash park... twice

Picnicked in the park watching trains

Been to Banff with the girls to see Blue Rodeo in an outdoor concert (which rocked)

Taken the kids "hiking" in the mountains

Oh, and finally gotten started on a Multnomah for my Great-Aunt

This pace show no signs of letting up. We head off across the country on vacation on Friday and my baby turns two next week!

Sheesh, I need a nap!

Hope your week includes time to catch your breath. Why not use that moment to check out some more  WIP's through Tami's Amis? That and a glass of cold ice tea sounds like the perfect break to me ; )

Cheers, Nikki

FO Friday #50 - Across the Water

Happy Friday everyone!

Last year, I got the chance to visit a lovely yarn shop in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. My very good friend had just moved back to Australia from Calgary and I was already missing her terribly. I saw some Silky Wool in a lovely shade of blue and knew I wanted to make something for her. It only took me about ten months to get it done...

It's winter in Melbourne and July 1st was my friend's birthday. I'm really pleased with the gift I made for her. I hope it fits the bill for the "cooler" months down under. And now that she has her scarf, I can finally show it...

Pattern: Cherry Leaf Scarf by Mary Ann Stephens
This pattern is free!

Colourway: 10
I knit until I finished two skeins

Modifications:
none!

It is going to be a gloriously sunny weekend here for the start of the Calgary Stampede. We plan to make the most of it. I hope you have some lovely weekend plans you are looking forward to, and I hope they include checking out more FO's through Tami's Amis : )

Cheers, Nikki

PS: I just came across this great article in the Washington Post. Love it!

WIP Wednesday #67 - Knits on a Plane

Hmmm, Knits on a Plane... doesn't quite have the same ring as Snakes on a Plane, does it?

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I have just returned from an amazing long weekend in Toronto. Three girls on the town (read: no kids) for 4 days. It was fantastic.
The only downside was I didn't get much knitting done.

Well, except on the drive to Niagara.

And at the baseball game - Go Jays!

And on the plane, of course.

Toronto showed me a really good time. I hope it won't be long until I am back.

I finished a new sun hat for Doodlebug that I will show you in a couple weeks. This Friday, I finally get to reveal my secret knitting from a while back : )

Cheers, Nikki

Extraneous shot of my kids in their new t-shirts
(No, it's not cold enough for winter hats in Calgary, my kids are just odd)
Be sure to check out Tami's Amis for a lot more Work-in-Progress!
